A CHILD’S READING CORNER
A child’s reading corner can determine what pathway he or she will choose in life. Knowledge is human power! Reading must become a central force in a child’s life, and if you ignore this development, you are handicapping your child. Stop with the video games and grab a book! Many games instill violence … we have enough of that in the world without teaching it to a five-year-old. Sit down with your child and read stories to him or her, even when they are unable to read. Maybe you have had problems reading as a child or adult … learn with your child … share what you know!
A Book Not to Look
Giving a child’s reading corner books that focus on history, relationships and self-esteem, can help him place footprints in life that increase education, avoid negative choices and understand discipline and courage. Books are designed to enlarge understanding and knowledge . . .not to be unread and placed on the shelf. Give him a book at an early age.
Your Child’s Reading Corner Books
Have you had a discussion about how to be happy with whom you are. Such discussions allow a child to grow up having either positive or negative understanding of his identity. Emphasizing that external features do not make a person is essential. The measure of a person is his character. Qualities like kindness, respect and patience will take him far in life.
Plant a Seed. . . Nourish It . . .
Being different does not mean negativity. Each person has the potential for good. Every flower adds beauty to the “garden of life.” A child’s reading corner should have books that shine a light on all colors of the rainbow. Diversity explores how each child fits into the culture he finds himself in.
Every Person Matters
Every person matters. Growing up in a culture that lives these values enables each child to view his importance in society. Not mattering can shatter. Keep the dreams of every kid intact.
