YOU WERE THERE WHEN . . .
When called upon you made your way, Where hundreds and thousands in hospitals lay,
Grabbing a mask and out the door, You landed dutifully on your floor,
The task was hard, the risk was great, But deaths were rising at an alarming rate.
What to do . . .what to say, Look to tomorrow for a better day,
Their eyes closed, their voices still, COVID 19 was there to kill.
No family or friend was there to see, When darkness came, it was only me,
I held your hand, as you walked alone, To a place I hope became a home.
I blinked back the tears as I walked away, To gather the courage for another day.
To doctors, nurses, fireman and police. We express words of gratitude that will never cease.
