The 2023 OSCARS

The 2023 Oscars, like previous years, generated news, glamour and excitement! However, this writer felt a different vibe–a vibe of inclusion that embraced talent . . .without cultural biases. The atmosphere seemed to say, “intelligence, talent and hard work have no boundaries . . . wherever it is found, it must be celebrated.” Jimmy Kimmel was the host that fit perfectly with the festivities.

Jimmy Kimmel as 2023 Oscar Host

As host of the 2023 Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel used a wide spectrum of dos and don’ts to garner laughter. The scope ranged from the “Will Smith Slap” to the core values of “George Santos.” His jokes honored some, but “took swipes” at others. The overall performance represented “Jimmy Kimmel in action!” If anyone thought being on the world stage would “tame” Kimmel, he was mistaken. I witnessed lots of giggles, chuckles and even found amusement in why Kimmel “ditched” his black tuxedo for a white one midway through the show! It was an inducement that matched the Oscar Red Carpet “wardrobe-grabbers.”

Tuxedos, Gowns and “Attention Getters”

“Oscar Red Carpet” has aways been a main attraction, and Oscar 2023 was no exception. As I gazed at the numerous individuals walking across the carpet, I had mixed emotions. “Wow! was a favorite expression, but “What!” escaped my lips also. Designers revealed imagination, elegance and bewilderment. Surprisingly, there were a few designs that caused me to wonder what the person wearing it was trying to prove. But…I exclaimed, “That’s the Oscars!”

It is gratifying to know that what one wears to the Oscars, has nothing to do with talent and determination. Take a look below.

Not only does the Academy Awards put the spotlight on fashion and design, it celebrates “the best” of the arts in many categories. However, the most coveted “Oscars” are: Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Picture.

Best Picture, Best Actress and Actor

The Academy Awards saves the best for last. The “last” is always “Best Picture.” In 2023, it was “Everything Everywhere All in One.” And… it will be a DVD added to my vacation home collection. Until I do so, all commentary is avoided. Here’s the trailer:

Brendan Fraser won the Oscar for Best Actor at the 2023 Academy Award for his role in the movie “The Whale.”

The amazing thing about Brendan Fraser in the movie “The Whale,” is he looked like a whale. The key was the astonishing work of the make-up artists.” They did an astounding job! If “The Whale” does not find its way into my movie collection, this trailer gives the make-up artists an A+.

The 2023 Oscars Score a Hit

Wrapping up my analysis of the 2023 Oscars, is an easy one. It recognized that excellence and artistic skills are worldwide. They have no gender, race, color or ethnicity. It would be heart-warming if politicians and much of the populace recognized that too. Well . . . we must start somewhere.

Asians and Indians took home well-deserved Oscars for the first time! What does this mean? It means “Mr. Oscar” finally recognized their talents and skills must be rewarded also. They always had them… they were not “applauded.”

It is not unusual for the arts to pave the way for inclusion and diversity. Long ago, African Americans saw a light shine in the hearts of the American society through the arts. Music, theater, literary and visual arts open eyes and purge souls. It was refreshing to see that at “the 2023 Oscars!”
